The Studio
The ASC mastering suite is located in the cottage out back at the Studio in the Heights (address above). The custom mastering suite renovation was accomplished during the Winter of '03 - '04 and incorporated a design specifically for mastering. The mastering/listening room has a huge "sweet" listening area made possible by over 300 square feet of curved variably-tuned midrange resonating baffles complimented by dual-eccentric corner bass traps that are fully 3 1/2 feet deep. Each side of this are is further enhanced by 40 square feet of tunable reflective shuttering. The rest of the suite is complimented by a comfortable kitchenette and bathroom.
Primary monitoring for mastering is with highly-tuned bi-amped Tannoy PBM 8s with the PS110B Studio Powered Subwoofer and crossover, insuring accurate reproduction of the full audible spectrum. Secondary monitoring is via original vintage Auratone cubes with instant switching between primaries and secondaries.
We subscribe to one of the most basic tenets of mastering: If you record and mix at ASC, we ask that you master elsewhere, or at least wait a while before mastering to enable ears to freshen and judgment to objectify.
